One of the most famous tales involving a wolf is the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. The original version, which is summarized here, was written by Charles Perrault. The classic fairy tale begins with Little Red Riding Hood being sent by her mother to check on her grandmother, who lives in a different village. Her mother gives her some cake and a pot of butter to give to her grandmother. Soon after entering the woods she meets a wolf, who asks her where she is heading. Little Red Riding Hood tells the wolf that she is heading to her grandmother's house, which is just beyond the mill. The wolf then runs as fast as he can to get to the grandmother's house before Little Red Riding Hood does. The wolf pretends to be Little Red Riding Hood in order to gain entry to her grandmother's house and then eats the grandmother once inside. The wolf then gets into the bed and waits for Little Red Riding Hood to arrive. When she arrives the wolf softens his voice to lure her inside and then into the bed. When Little Red Riding Hood gets into the bed, believing that it is her grandmother, the wolf eats her as well.
